Estratégias para redução da mortalidade infantil: relato de experiência

Abstract

Historically, the municipality of Itapeva/SP has always had high rates of infant mortality, and from 2010 to 2016 rates ranged from 15.0 to 23.3. In 2017, it signicantly reduced its rate, reaching a never before recorded value of 8 deaths per thousand live births. This is an experience report with the purpose of describing the municipal strategies implemented to reduce infant mortality. Among the strategies implemented stood out the prenatal follow-up form, the update of the care protocol with the introduction of exams and new routines, training of the multidisciplinary team, strengthening of the home visit, continuous awareness of individual and collective responsibility of the team and implantation of “Baby Week’, “Maternity Project” and “Live Project”. The challenge now is to keep the teams motivated, updated and monitored, so we can keep that indicator at less than one digit.
