Abstract

Scientifi c evidences prove that the key pillars for health, learning and behavior throughout life are established in early childhood. The Commission on Social Determinants of Health of the World Health Organization states that a comprehensive approach focused on child development in early childhood is a fundamental strategy to promote health equity. The National Council of State Health Secretaries (CONASS), mobilized by these global evidences and guidelines, has fostered health promotion initiatives from early childhood care. In 2008, it established a strategic partnership with the Centre of Excellence for Early Childhood Development, of the University of Montreal, Canada. As a result of this alliance, products have been disseminated in Brazil and abroad, among which can be mentioned: the Portuguese version of the Encyclopedia on Early Childhood Development; the report “Preventing violence through learning in early childhood”; the fi lm “The origins of the aggression.” The promotion of an approach and collaboration between research, policies and services is essential to qualify the assistance provided to the population. Intervene early, consistently and effectively is fundamental to the achievement of health equity.
