Abstract
Considering the influence of emotional states on people's health, the present research investigated the feeling of well-being subjectiveanalysis of men and women of four age groups, residents of a city in the interior of São Paulo and a beach town from northeast. We
interviewed 165 people who responded to scales of positive and negative affects. The main result was finding that the elderly were
more satisfied with life and less nervous when compared to younger people. A possible interpretation can be given according to the
theory of socio-emotional selectivity, according to which emotions are better regulated as people age.
