Abstract

Brazil is a country of multiple ethnic-racial formation and, in this formation, the black population constitutes a significant portion. Among the many problems experienced for this segment, we highlight, in this study, the essential
arterial hypertension (EAH), as this disease is of the cardiovascular system a major health challenge public, responsible
for heart and kidney problems, between others. According to the North American literature, it appears that the essential
arterial hypertension, although it has its origin unknown, is proportionately more frequent in black individuals compared
to whites. It is observed although, in addition to the prevalence in black people, the blood pressure values in this ethnic group are higher than the values found in white hypertensive patients.
