Jornal da USP and Ciência USP: the university as a privileged space for science dissemination

Abstract

In this paper we discuss some experiences of “Jornal da USP” in science coverage, focusing on the theme of this publication,
health sciences and new media, from May 2016 to February 2020. We describe a little of the routines that lead to the final products,
which are: text and image reports, social media content, and audiovisual content (videos and podcasts). We also explain the
criteria adopted in the selection of what is on the agenda, who is interviewed and about choosing between a variety of formats;
how the language is adapted to the target audience; some public engagement strategies used in social media, and, finally, actions
taken to integrate our work with that of other actors that carry out science outreach in universities, such as undergraduates,
graduate students and professors, organized in groups for this purpose.
