LGBTQIA+ conversation roundtable at SUS: experience of the Atibaia Medical Specialty Outpatient Clinic

Abstract

Because of the history of struggles for rights, dignity and free exercise of citizenship by the LGBTQIA+ community, the advances
of public policies of inclusion and recognition of the individualities of this group demonstrate the need for the health area to
guarantee adequate care to all, including the offer of humanized welcoming and incentive to professionals of the Unified Health
System to rethink practices and conducts related to this vulnerable minority. The LGBTQIA+ Conversation Roundtable, held at
the Atibaia Medical Specialty Outpatient Clinic, made it possible, through the technical point of view of an Infectious Diseases professional, responsible for the support group for transsexuals in the city of Atibaia, to raise the awareness of the service's professionals on the subject. Aiming at a better understanding of the reality experienced by these people, this training was done with the presentation of testimonials from members of the LGBTQIA+ community and discussion of scientific studies and professional experiences on the subject.
