Abstract
In the year in which the Unified Health System (SUS) celebrates 35 years, we have the honorable responsibility of pay a brief tribute to the late Paulo Eduardo Mangeon Elias, or simply Paulo Elias, whose legacy is inscribedin the history of public health in the country, especially in the state of São Paulo. Graduated in medicine,
completed his master's degree and PhD in the Department of Preventive Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of
the University of São Paulo (FMUSP), where he became a professor and supervised masters and doctorates.
His trajectory as an intellectual and health doctor of Paulo Elias are intertwined with the redemocratization
of Brazil, with the Movement of the Health Reform and the construction of the SUS. He worked at the Prof.
School Health Center. Samuel B. Pessoa (CSEB), an interdisciplinary space for internships and FMUSP medical
residency training
