Abstract
SUS, the Brazilian health system, is one of the most complex and daring in the world, for treating health as an essential right, to which access is guaranteed integral, universal and free for the entire populationof the country. Public policies formulated in the Constitution of 1988 are translated into recognition of health as a public right of immediate effectiveness, operationalized through a single access system comprehensive
coverage that ranges from primary care to organ transplantation. This model guarantees everyone Brazilians,
throughout their lives, essential care, prevention and health promotion.
