Pedagogy of hospitality in street soccer: listening and dialogue in experiences of conviviality, street soccer as a place of leisure and struggle for the right to the city

Abstract

This experience report endeavors to initiate discourse concerning the act of listening as a pivotal component for societal cohabitation and, consequently, for harm mitigation. The discourse emanates from the participatory observation of street soccer, specifically within the demarcated territory colloquially termed Cracolândia. This locale draws individuals from the peripheries of the Luz region, located within the Central Zone of São Paulo, alongside members of the football clubs União Lapa F. C and Rosanegra ADF. Embodied within a fieldwork methodology, this study encapsulates a continuous experiential and reflexive engagement with the structural inequities pervasive within our societal fabric, manifesting as instances of resistance against myriad forms of violence. Thus, the entitlement to leisure and urban space emerges as pivotal tenets in the pursuit of harm mitigation and the cultivation of a societal metamorphosis devoid of the reiteration of capitalist paradigms, predicated upon the exploitation of human labor and the amassing of capital.
