Abstract

The Research Program for the Unified Health System (PPSUS), created in 2002 by the Brazilian Ministry of Health, aims to promote research within the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) in the States of the Federation. It consists of a partnership between the Federal and State Governments represented by, in the Federal level, the Ministry of Health by means of the Department of Science and Technology of the Science Secretary, Technology and Strategic Goods (Decit/SCTIE) and also the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), and, in the State level, the State Scientific Foundations and State Secretaries of Health.
Since its creation in 2004, the PPSUS in the State of Sao Paulo promoted seven calls, with 229 scientific  projects funded by the Ministry of Health and FAPESP. There is no doubt that this program has been very successful, but many challenges remain. It is necessary to know more about the impact of the results from these funded projects in the SUS in the State of São Paulo. The solution of problems and improvements on  behaviors that effectively contribute to the evolution of SUS in the State of São Paulo depend greatly on the continuity of the joint effort of the Institutions that support the PPSUS-SP, as well as the commitment of researchers
from State of São Paulo.
