Abstract
The objective of this work was to evaluate the organizational health dimensions and performance of health services dealing with the control of tuberculosis (TB) in municipalities in the State of São Paulo, in 2007. This is a descriptive study, undertaken in Sé, in São Paulo, in Ribeirão Preto (RP) and São José do Rio Preto (SJRP), using an instrument based on The Primary Care Assessment Tool (PCAT) for the evaluation of the organization and performance of TB control services in Brazil, regarding the dimensions: entrance door, access, connection, range of services, coordination, focus on the family and community guidance. Indicators were constructed as from the average response scores, classifi ed as satisfactory, regular, and unsatisfactory. In RP and SJRP, satisfactory performance was obtained with dimensions: access to diagnostics, treatment, connections; and unsatisfactory those of a collective character, with emphasis on the family and community. Within the administrators
a lack of knowledge regarding the actions concerning TB in their territory was noted. In the supervision of the Sé, the evaluations between the ill and managers showed themselves to be divergent, but the ties and benefi ts offered were considered as determining the adhesion to treatment. It is recommended that proper conditions for the incorporation of diagnostic action and treatment of TB with teams capable of executing them be ensured.
