Abstract
The purpose of this article is to analyze the book Primavera Silenciosa (1962), written by the American biologist Rachel Carson,. The book aimed to denounce the indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides in the USA and achieved worldwide repercussions. We address aspects of its publication and reception in the US, we discuss the content, structure, thesis and arguments and, finally, we present problematizations around the myth that the book would have founded the environmentalist movement.
