Abstract
Knowledge dissemination is very important, both among peers in the academic-scientific environment and to society, through popular science. This essay aims to discuss the importance of preparing scientists to communicate with their academic peers and with society since interests have changed and the attitude required of researchers has also changed. Furthermore, it is verified that Brazilian society does not value science, and this is mixed with the need to obtain funds to carry out studies and the lack of national mechanisms that allow greater dissemination of Brazilian research. A sloppy popular science or its scarcity creates gaps occupied by fake news, conspiracy theories or pseudoscience. Every scientist aware of his role in society deserves to be understood by the greatest number of people, benefiting life in community and the sustainable use of the
planet’s resources. Popular science, when done with dedication and deliberately, also helps to create new partnerships and provide more funds for research.
