Direitos, políticas e práticas de atenção à saúde e sexualidade de jovens e adolescentes em instituições governamentais de privação de liberdade

Abstract

Young people and adolescents under legal freedom privation within social-educational system measure in Brazil don´t have their sexual and reproductive rights respected, especially those regarding sexuality, sexual and reproductive health and rights, use of drugs and mental health. This paper addresses the results of a qualitative research which interviewed adolescents and youth living in thirteen units of socio-educational system, as well as decision maker, technical and legal staff of these units, at the North, Northeast, Midwest, South and Southeast Regions in Brazil. The study has been part of the project Promoting Sexual and Reproductive Rights of Adolescents In Conflict With the Law, implemented with the support of NGO and social movements advocating for human rights. The results indicate the difficulties the personnel working both at the legal system and the socio-educational units, have in recognizing the importance, necessity, urgency and their personal prejudices to deal with these rights.
