Abstract

The production of works on racial inequalities in health, although incipient among us, has been relatively intense internationally. In the United States, there is a higher prevalence and severity of systemic sclerosis, among non-whites (NIETERT et al., 2001), with a decrease in cancer mortality colorectal cancer among whites and an increase among blacks. report stabilization of
deaths from prostate and breast cancer in the first and dramatic increase in the second (PIFFATH et al., 2001). It was also found that the The difference in mortality from diabetes was accentuated, in especially between black and white women (QUENAN & REMINGTON, 2000), while
maternal mortality (CHANG et al., 2003) and the risk of death by accident cerebrovascular disease remain 4 times higher for blacks. Several explanatory aspects were presented to this phenomenon.
