Resumen
A produção de trabalhos sobre desigualdades raciais na saúde, embora incipiente entre nós, tem sido relativamente intensa internacionalmente. Nos Estados Unidos, há maior prevalência e severidade de esclerose sistêmica, entre não brancos (NIETERT et al., 2001), tendo havido queda da mortalidade por câncer colo-retal entre brancos e aumento entre negros. Relatase estabilização das mortes por câncer de próstata e mama nos primeiros e aumento dramático nos segundos (PIFFATH et al., 2001). Verificou-se também que o diferencial de mortalidade por diabetes se acentuou, em especial, entre mulheres negras e brancas (QUENAN &
REMINGTON, 2000), enquanto a mortalidade materna (CHANG et al., 2003) e o risco de morte por acidente vascular cerebral permanecem 4 vezes maiores para negros. Diversas vertentes explicativas foram apresentadas para esse fenômeno.
