Abstract

The Kangaroo Mother Care (KMM), also known as “skin-to-skin”, has been shown to be advantageous in scientific literature, when compared to the conventional, because it improves the thermal control of the newborn, stabilizes earlier their vital functions, such as oxygenation and heart rhythms and respiratory,
increases well-being and reduces the cry of the baby, improves its growth and weight gain, stimulates and
increases the duration of breastfeeding, facilitates the establishment of the affective bond between the
mother and her child, increases parental competence and confidence in care and handling of your premature child,
improves the family's relationship with the health team, reduces nosocomial infection, morbidity and mortality intra-hospital, reduces the length of stay hospital and increases the turnover of ICU beds neonatal care, in
addition to being more economical. These benefits transcend the health of babies, encompassing their families and institutions specialized in intensive care neonatal.
