Abstract

Delivery and birth care has suffered constant changes over time. in the past the birth almost always took place
at home and the woman she was usually assisted by relatives, friends or midwives. Over the years, women came to
have their sons or daughters inside a hospital and, especially in countries like Brazil, doctors have become the dominant professional in childbirth care and birth.
