Abstract

This study was requested and funded by the Committee of Education2 and coordinated by me, in 1991. This committee met at the
National Institute of Food and Nutrition, in Brasília, technicians and representatives of different Ministries and aimed propose guidelines and strategies that could raise awareness, encourage and promote breastfeeding Maternal (AM) in different
spaces and institutions. The Committee defined it as a priority to develop actions with 1st Grade teachers and assess whether
the books didactics were in accordance with the “Standards for Marketing of Food for Infants”- established by the National
Health Council, by through the resolution of December 20, 1988 - which determined that educational materials not could contain images or texts that stimulated the use of food to replace breast milk.It was considered essential to awaken in
students, from an early age, a favorable stance towards breastfeeding, Maternal, making the children realize that “sucking at your mother”
is a natural act and a inalienable right.
