Abstract
Insect repellents play a vital role in preventing diseases transmitted by arthropods but their regulations differ worldwide. This study compared the legislation of Brazil, Europe, the United States, and Australia regarding classification, allowable concentrations of active ingredients, and labeling requirements. In Brazil, they are classified as cosmetics; in Europe, as biocides; in the United States, as pesticides; and in Australia, as agricultural chemicals. Despite the shared goal of ensuring safety and efficacy to protect public health, these regulatory differences highlight the challenges of harmonization and global access to these products.
