Abstract

The use of a pacifier can interfere with the orofacial development (eg jaw) and in functions performed by all orofacial
structures, especially in the suckling of the newborn. For mapping the prevalence of use of pacifier data from 1999 of
the Project Breastfeeding and Municipalities - Assessment of Practices Food in the First Year of Life in Days Vaccination
Nationals, coordinated by the Institute of Health/SES-SP. The database adds up to 22,188 records of children under 4 months, distributed among 111 municipalities in the State of São Paulo, after having deleted records without information or with inconsistent data.
