Abstract

Since 1996, the Secretary of State for Education of São Paulo, through the Foundation for Development of Education, in partnership with the Department of Health, implemented the program “Prevention is also taught”, aiming at reducing the incidence of STD/AIDS and drug abuse among adolescents in the public network of Elementary and high school. This program has reached 100% of the teaching directorates; 4,635 trained educators; 3,468 schools (58% of the network); 3,500,000 students benefited from preventive actions.
