Resumo
Com a finalidade de obter culturas do meningococo de um modo mais constante e precoce, partindo do líquido cefalorraquidiano de doentes de meningite cérebro-espinhal epidêmica incubaram-se os meios de cultura semeados, - ágar-ovo - em atmosfera de mais ou menos 10% de dióxido de carbono a 37°C. Todos os casos experimentados foram testemunhados por tubos contendo o mesmo meio de cultura, semeados de modo idêntico e colocados a 37°C. Dos 248 casos estudados, 131 resultaram culturas positivas e 117 negativas. Entre os 131 positivos, houve vantagem para os incubados em atmosfera de CO2 de 62,87%. Tendo-se em vista o resultado acima, preconiza-se a incubação em atmosfera de dióxido de carbono no isolamento inicial do meningococo.
