Abstract

Any brand of basic fuchsins can be used in the preparation of Schiff's reagent for stading of aldehydes rather than only those indicated in the histologic techniques literature, provided the following guidelines ave observed: a) oxygen in the water is to be eliminated to the maxímurn extent possible by boiling the water for 15 minutes; b ) addition of fuchsin to the water is to be made only after heating is discontinued; c) metabissulfite must be added at the bottom of the acidified reagent: d) no trace of coa1 is to be 1eft in the solution; d) reagent is not to have contact with aír during storage.
