Resumo
Procedeu-se à cultura quantitativa do material obtido por aspiração transtraqueal e do obtido por expectoração espontânea de 27 pacientes hospitalizados, afetados por infecções raqueobrônquicas e pulmonares, agudas ou crônicas. Nenhum dos pacientes havia recebido tratamento antimicrobiano prévio. Os resultados revelam que a cultura do escarro tem valor diagnóstico nos isolados das diluições maiores ou iguais a 10", equiparando-se aos isolamentos do material aspirado. A cultura quantitativa é de utilidade no estabelecimento da etiologia, patogenia e terapêutica para recuperação do paciente.
