History
Created in 2004, Boletim Epidemiológico Paulista - BEPA (São Paulo Epidemiological Bulletin) is a technical-scientific publication of the Coordenadoria de Controle de Doenças - CCD (Coordination of Disease Control), an agency of the Secretaria de Estado da Saúde de São Paulo (SES-SP) (São Paulo State Department of Health), responsible for planning and executing health promotion and prevention actions for any risks, diseases, and illnesses in the several areas covered by the Sistema Único de Saúde - SUS (Unified Health System).
In almost two decades, 217 issues have been published. During this time, the BEPA has been consolidated as an important vehicle for the dissemination of original scientific articles, standards, and detailed technical reports on the national and international health surveillance programmatic actions.
Mission
BEPA's mission is to disseminate information, promote updating and the technical and scientific improvement of health professionals and institutions, and encourage the production and dissemination of studies carried out by the public and private networks in São Paulo and Brazil.
Contents, periodicity and language
Published in continuous flow, and following the best editorial practices, BEPA has great cultural and social relevance, with the publication - in Portuguese - of epidemiological data; description of programmatic actions; health situation analyses; identification of non-communicable diseases as a public health problem; epidemiological research; sanitary and environmental surveillance, such as food analysis; water quality surveillance; and
documentation of reports that are important to the history of state, national, and international public health.
