Abstract
The objective of this study was to evaluate the in vitro activity of essential oils of Eucalyptus citriodora Hooker, Eucalyptus globulus Labill, Eugenia caryophyllus Sprengel on newly C. albicans isolated from buccal mucosa of patients in Intensive Care Units (ICU) and stored in mycology collection. In subinibitory doses evaluate the germinative tube formation. We used two standard strains ATCC (ATCC 60193 and ATCC 90028) and 33 yeast isolates and 17 isolates of C. albicans newly isolated from the oral mucosa of patients in the ICU and 16 isolates of human origin biological kept in mycology collection. For the evaluation of the antifungal activity and obtaining the minimum fungicidal concentration (MFC) was used the broth microdilution technique in RPMI 1640 medium with Tween-20 0.02%. And confirmation of inhibition in Sabouraud dextrose agar at 37°C by 24 hours. The essential oil of Eucalyptus citriodora showed fungicidal activity against C. albicans freshly isolated and maintained in mycology collection with the lowest inhibitory concentrations in relation to the essential oils of Eucalyptus globulus and Eugenia caryophyllus. The essential oil of Eucalyptus citriodora, Eucalyptus globulus and Eugenia caryophyllus inhibited germ tube formation of C. albicans all newly isolated samples. C. albicans isolates kept in mycology collection were more sensitive to essential oils Eucalyptus citriodora and Eugenia caryophyllus
that C. albicans newly samples isolated from buccal mucosa of patients in the ICU.
