Abstract
Pulmonary Thromboembolism (PTE) is an acute cardiovascular disease that affects about 1 in every 1000 people per year in the United States, being the third most common cause of death in the hospital environment. Thus, the objective of this study was to describe the epidemiological profile of PTE cases in Brazil from January 2015 to December 2019. From the Hospital Information System of the Brazilian Unified Health System (SIH / SUS) data were obtained of all cases of PTE reported in Brazil from 2015 to 2019. During this period, the number of hospitalizations for PTE in Brazil was 42,411, concentrated in the southeastern region (54.7%), however, the region with the highest rate hospital lethality (25.38%) was the northeast. As for sex, the prevalence of hospitalizations and deaths in women is observed, however, in comparison, the hospital lethality rate of men is 1.77% higher. Regarding race, it appears that white is the most affected, especially in women. The correlation between sociodemographic factors and the development of PTE is notorious, since the regions with the lowest Human Development Index (HDI) in Brazil (north and northeast) lead the ranking in terms of hospital lethality. Therefore, it is necessary to implement tools that stimulate the prevention of PTE and its risk factors, aiming to decrease the lethality
rate and incidence of cases in Brazil.
