Reactivation Project and Implementation of the Program of Governance of treated Water for Hemodialysis of the State of Sao Paulo, SP, August 2009

Abstract

 The Quality Monitoring Program of treated water for dialysis included on the health agenda of the state of Sao Paulo is designed to evaluate, systematically, the quality of the water necessary for dialysis treatment, since Chronic Renal Failure is a major problem of Public Health today. Preliminary data on the analysis of water samples for dialysis, collected in the last quarter of 2007, revealed that the results were not satisfactory in 100% of services. Currently, the program is present across all the state and shows results, even not representing 100% of the population of dialysis services, reveal significant improvement of the standards of water quality in compliance to the parameters recommended by Resolution RDC n º 154/2004. In the year 2007, water samples were treated in 69 departments located in the Capital and Greater Sao Paulo, where 49% were in disagreement. In the year 2008, the focus of attention was the interior of the state and Greater Sao Paulo, where samples were collected in 104 services, whose results were favorable in the order of 68%. These results reflect the efforts of the technical aspects of State and Municipal sanitary surveillance services, which, together with the work of the IAL, has fulfilled the expectations of the program, signaling that it is possible and feasible to minimize potential risks in dialysis treatment.
