Resumo
Realizou-se um estudo retrospectivo de três anos no qual foram estudados os valores de hemoglobinas de pessoas com idade igual ou superior a 60 anos, de ambos os sexos, que foram atendidas no Instituto Adolfo Lutz - Central no período compreendido entre os anos de 1990 e 1992. Foram obtidas 2497 determinações: 1665 de mulheres e 832 de homens. Os valores de hemoglobina foram estudados em conjunto com o sexo e a idade dos indivíduos com o objetivo de estabelecer um perfil dos anêmicos. Os indivíduos do sexo masculino apresentaram anemia mais freqüentemente que os do sexo feminino, 19,83% e 10,09%, respectivamente. Quando levado em conta o fator idade, os indivíduos com mais de 80 anos apresentaram a maior freqüência da doença, 18,74%. A freqüência de anemia encontrada foi de 13,34% em relação a todos os casos estudados.
