Abstract

A three-year-old retrospective study was performed based upon the hemoglobin values of sixty-year-old and over males and females. These pacientes were a hended at the Adolfo Lutz, Central lnstitute, during the period of 1990 to 1992. From 2,497 determinations obtained, 1,665 were females and 832 males. The hemoglobin values were studied in order to determine the profile of anemics. The males showed more frequently anaemia than the females, 19,83% and 10,09%, respectively. In relation to the age factor, the ones over eighty years old showed a larger frequence of the disease, 18,74%. The frequence of anaemia found was 13,34% in relation to all cases studied.
