RIAL aligns with the principles of Open Science, contributing to the construction of scientific knowledge that is participatory, transparent, shared, and democratized. Its publication policies are based on concepts related to open access, preprint publication, and open research data policies.
Open Access
RIAL adopts the Open Access model, ensuring that all content is available electronically and free of charge, with no costs to the reader or their institution.
Readers have the freedom to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or reference the full texts of the articles, or use them for any legal purpose without prior permission from the editors or authors, provided they respect the usage license of the Creative Commons adopted by RIAL.
This Open Access approach follows the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) guidelines and gives authors control over the integrity of their work and the right to be appropriately recognized and cited.
All authors who publish in RIAL accept these publication terms, reinforcing the commitment to the open and collaborative dissemination of knowledge.
Preprints
A preprint is a manuscript deposited prior to the peer-reviewed publication process in scientific journals, on preprint servers, aiming for open and immediate evaluation by specialists. It serves as a tool for rapid dissemination, visibility, and establishment of originality, used by authors wishing to share their work early, allowing them to receive valuable feedback before formal peer review and accelerating scientific communication.
In line with Open Science practices, RIAL accepts articles previously made available on preprint servers. During the submission process, authors are asked to provide the virtual location (link and DOI) of the preprint manuscript on the Title Page, enabling editors to have direct access to earlier versions of the work and facilitating the tracking of the editorial process.
If the manuscript is accepted for publication, authors must indicate the link to the version published in RIAL in the repository.
Open Data
RIAL emphasizes the importance of transparency and replicability in scientific research. In this sense, we advise that the data resulting from research collections, as well as the codes used, be shared and published in a reliable repository, ensuring their accessibility and long-term preservation.
This practice not only promotes the integrity of research but also contributes to the advancement of scientific knowledge by enabling the validation and reuse of data by other researchers. As examples of repositories, we recommend Zenodo, Fighsare, re3data.org and Harvard Dataverse.
For articles resulting from original research, the availability of the research data set and where to access it will be indicated at the end of the published article. Thus, the author must inform on the Title Page in which repository the research data has been published.
