Abstract

The antifungal activity of Cymbopogon citratus essential oil was assessed by means of agar diffusion technique on 24 Candida albicans isolates and 15 Candida tropicalis isolates originated from patients with suspected nosocomial infection, and one Candida albicans ATCC 10231 standard strain. Cymbopogon citratus essential oil showed antifungal activity on 100% of the isolates which were analyzed from 25% (v/v) on concentrations, indicating its effective activity on nosocomial microorganisms.
