Abstract

In experimental works on guinea-pigs, it is the parenteral administration of drugs which offers most commodity and security. The use of aureomycin by this route has certain disadvantages and inconveniencies which do not recommend it. The adaptation made by the authors, however, of the antibiotic which was originally destined for enteral application, permitted the perfect utilization of the parenteral route, by eliminating undesirable reactions. By applying a single or fractioned dose they were able to show the preventive or curative efficacy of aureomycin, after adaptation to parenteral use on experimental spotted fever in guinea-pigs which had been infected with rickettsias isolated in São Paulo.
