Abstract
In a previous work, the author presented to the 5th International Congress of Microbiology (Rio de Janeiro, August 1950) and published in "Revista do Instituto Adolfo Lutz" a new method to stain Treponemata based on the application of blue-black Superchrome ink, Parker 51. On further research he established that:
1st - The blue-black inks put on the market by "The Parker Pen Co." (Janesville, Wisc. U.S.A.) have 4 different formulae under n. 3390 - 2448 - 2389 - 1755.
2nd - Only n. 3390 - Ink blue ASB (diaminostilbene disulfonic acid coupled to 2 moles of Chicago Acid) stained the Treponemata well. The other three samples did not stain at all. 3rd – 6 decigrams of the powdered ink ASB, diluted in 100 ml absolute alcohol by the addition of about 10% distilled water, filtered through filter paper, also stain Treponemata perfectly well, thus showing that the solvent of the Superchrome liquid ink in the market, the formula of which is a secret kept by the makers, has no influence on the staining power of the ink.
