Abstract
Thirty-seven patients with Strongyloides stercoralis (32 cases) and with Trichocephalus trichiurus (18 cases) were treated with dithiazanine (3,3' diethylthiadicarbocyanine iodide) in two dosage schedules: 100 mg three times a day, for 7 days, and 200 mg three times a day, for 7 days. Criterium for cure was negative laboratory tests of the feces, performed according to Rugai et al's technic, Hoffmann, Pons and Janer's cup sedimentation, and Willis' methods. Three different samples were tested from the 5th to the 48th day after the end of therapy. Among 37 treated patients, 13 presented nausea, vomiting or diarrhea, but these symptoms disappeared with continuation of treatment, The schedule of 100 mg three times a day, for 7 days, is better endured by the patients and gives similar therapeutic results. It should be preferred for current clinical use.
