Abstract

A new technic in the preparation of an antigen for the diagnosis of Chagas' disease by the complement fixation test (Machado-Guerreiro test) is presented. A suspension of trypanosomas in saline solution with 1/10,000 merthiolate was treated by ultrasonic waves in two 10-minute periods, using a frequency of 800 kilocycles in the first period and 2,400 kilocycles in the second one, with energy consumption of 30 and 38 watts, respectively. Preliminary results obtained in 87 sera suggest that the preparation of antigens by this technic is simple, they are more stable and easily stored.
