Abstract

The production of "interferon" from chorioallantoic membranes infected with two influenza strains, Al/Denver/1/57, A2/Japan/305/57, and with vaccinia virus is Each batch of "interferon" was precipitated with ammonium sulphate and reprecipitated with acetone. The dried precipitates were redissolved in Earle's solution so that 0.1 ml contained 75 gamma of powder. The materials were tested in chick embryo tissue cultures; in each case inhibition of the cytopathic effect produced by the homologous and the two heterologous viruses was observed.
