Abstract
The technique of Lindenmann for testing the effect of interferon on viruses grown in tissue cultures was successfully employed in the macroscopic differentiation between discrete lesions of variola and vaccinia viruses grown in cultures of chicken embryo, human kidney and amnion cells. Staining with crystal violet improved the differentiation.
