Abstract
In order to determinate the situation of antituberculosis drug resistance in the State of São Paulo, 1668 strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis have been studied; 254 of them were obtained from sputum of patients without previous medical treatrnent and 1414 of patients during the treatment. The initial resistence rated 16.54% and the acquired resistence rated 47.45%. The Mycobacterium tuberculosis showed a isoniazid global resistence of 10.62% and rifampicin global resistence of 6.69% showing that the most important drugs used in the tuberculosis treatrnent are presenting high resistance rate. This fact is worrisome, since it can cause the treatment failure and consequently, cause difficulties to the disease control.
