Abstract

C. diphtheriae was isolated and identified from 3 blood specimens
from a patient without clinical manifestation of diphtheriae. Morphology and bíoehemical and toxigenic properties of the three isolates corresponded to biotypes intermedius, mitis, and mitis variety belfanti. The biochemical properties were identical for the three isola tes, except for type A nitrate-redutase in biotypes intermedius and mitis. These biotypes were not toxigenic when tested by Elek method. Biotype mitis variety belfanti was toxigeníc, There was no difference in the behavior of isolates against the tested anti-microbial agents.
