Abstract

During the period 1983-1987, 87 enterotoxigenic strains Escherichia coli were positive for the colonization factor antigen I or II (fimbrial antigen F2, F3). With 33 positive stool cultures during the five-period. Among the 87 thermostable toxin-producing strains, 31 (35.6%)were also thermolabile toxin-producing strains, while 43 strains (49.4%) were positive for the colonization factor antigen I or II (fimbrial antigen F2, F3). Whith 33 somatic antisera, 61(70.1%)of the strains were identified and the most frequent serogroups were 0:6, 0:153, 0:78, 0:159, 0:27 and 0:139.
