Abstract

From October 1977 to September 1979, it were examined 1,190
stool specimens cultures during an epidemic outbreak occurcd in paediatric ward in Presidente Prudente, São Paulo. In 148 strains of Salmo nella typhimu1'ium, it was found 61 Salmo nella typhimurium 05- strains which resulted as negative for lysine decarboxylase. In the course of enviromental research in a transversal section, Salmonella typhimurium 05- with negative Iysine decarboxylase was isolated in two opportunities, from cura tive tray and craddle mattress, and also this bioserotype was isolated from two children's or opharynx samples. The high resistance sh own by almost all of strains, either LD- or LD+ to antimicrobials, demonstrate its correlation to hospital environment. It is worth to observe that at the end of this work, the finding of Salm onella typhimul'ium was still in very high levels.
