Abstract

In 205 live trapped rats captured in the limits of São Paulo
cou n ty, during the period from May 1977 to August 1979, the pattern of association between intestinal helminth species was examined, concerning to determine the occurrence of negative interaction or synergic effect between various species. The results achieved through this study demonstrate that, in field conditions, there was no evidence of nega tive interactions, on the contrary to experimental studies where this aspect could be found, by other workers. However, there are evidences that inibitory phenomenons may occur when there is association of both species Nippostrongylus brasiliensis and Het erakie spumosa living on the same host. In respect to the association of three species of helminths on the same host, in field conditions, based on the statistical analysis of results, it does not make possible to assume the occurrence of synergic effects or negative interactions among the species.
