Abstract

Some characteristics of the buclizine dihydrochloride, a tranquilizer and anti-histaminic agent used in pharmaceuticals, are described in this work. Titration curves and absorption spectra of the plain substance are also shown herein. It is described as well a technic for detecting the substance, when free, through a simple titration with perchloric acid in a non-aqueous medium and violet crystal as indicator. Further it is described a technic for detecting the substance through spectrophotometric titration with or without previous purification by diethyl ether washing, and through thin-layer chromatography, with absorbance readings either at 239 nm
in chloroformic solution or at 274 nm, in benzene.
