Resumen
The abilty to detect the presence of pathogenic organisms in clinical specimens, food and water is extremely important to reduce and/or prevent case of foodborne illness. Culture methods for bacterial detection are often lengthy, therfore rapid, sensitive, specific and simple methods of detection are needed. Rapid testing can provide processors with better quality assurance programs, which in turn reduces the risk to consumers. If the co-agglutination technique can be optimized, it could be very useful to public health agencies to investigate, diagnose, and prevent foodborne illness outbreaks. Monoclonal antibody reagents formatted into rapid test systems (e.g. latex agglutination, ELISA, immunofluorescence, and immunomagnetic separation), can provide public health agencies with necessary diagnostic tools to reduce the impact of food and water borne diseases.
