Abstract

The difference in the oxy-reduction potential between germs of the Escherichia and Aerogenes genera was tried out as a basis for rapid differentiation of these coli-form germs. The indicator used was methylene blue. The V. P. reaction was taken as a means of comparison. The methylene blue did not tally with the VP in 2,63% of the species of E. freundii, 4% of the E. coli, 18,3% of A. aerogenes, and 40,5% of the A. cloacae. The method of differentiation of the coliform germs by the discoloration of the methylene blue is not secure one.
