Abstract

Evaluation of the total blood total blood sample absorption and the blood diffusion on different types of
filter paper, was carried out. This surrogate procedure has been used as an alternative way for collection, transporting and storing up the blood samples for epidemiological studies of different diseases detected by means of immunological methods. Filter papers Whatman n°.1,Nalgon 80 g, Nalgon 3550, Nalgon 3551, Nalgon 3552, Macherey-Nagel 640d, Macherey-Nagel 640m, Macherey-Nagel 640w, Macherey-Nagel 640we, Melitta, Jovita, Extra and Jprolab 42 were analyzed. These filter papers were impregnated with human blood sample collected from a single donor. After the papers being dried, 6mm punches were made, and the respective eluates were obtained adding PBS pH 7.2 +/- 0.1. The blood absorption capacity was measured by spectrophotometry at 406.5 nm. The analyzed filter papers presented no homogeneous blood absorption in the whole extension, although the filter papers MN 640m, Nalgon 3551 and Nalgon 3552, and filter papers MN 640w and Nalgon 80g were equivalent among themselves respectively, as to their efficacy and average absorption of total blood. Although some filter papers showed similarity in blood absorption, further studies are necessary in order to assess the quality of the assays results carried...
