Abstract

Rice is a basic food for Brazilian people and thus, it is very important to have information about the occurrence of mycotoxins in this cereal. Aflatoxins and ochratoxin A were determined at the method of Soares and Rodriguez-Amaya (1989) added of ciclohexane partition in the cleaning of the extract. The recovery tests were carried out in samples of polished rice and brown rice artificially contaminated with aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), with  ochratoxin A (OTA) and with AFB1 together. Recovery obtained for AFB1, varied from 94 to 104% for polished rice and 87 to 103% for brown rice. For OTA the recovery found were between 80 and 105% for polished rice and 83 to 94% for brown rice. The quantification limits were also evaluated and for the aflatoxins B1, B2, G1 and G2 were 1, 1, 3 and 1 µg/kg for the polished rice and 3, 1, 4 and 3 µg/kg for brown rice, respectively. The quantification limit of the method for OTA was 4 µg/kg for polished rice and 10 µg/kg for brown rice. Sixty-eight rice samples were analyzed. OTA was not found in any of the analyzed samples. AFB1 was detected in two polished rice samples: type 1 with...
