Abstract

Tcsts are described for confirmation of the identity oftrichothecenes (deoxynivalenol, diacetoxycispemol, toxinT-2, roridin A, and vermcarinA) on thin layer chromatrography using(a) anacetylation reaction cmployed previous to a chromatographic development and(b) 5 spray reagents (sulfuricacid, acid,
ceric sulfate, 2,4 dinitrophenylhydrazine, p-anisaldehyde, chrornotropic acid) employedafter a chromatographic development. Nivalenoldid notrespondto the spray reagents being utilized and thus could not be included in the present proposal. The system was tested on eight samples of corn previously innoculated and incubated with Fusarium trichothecene producing strains. Diacetoxyscirpenol and T-2 toxin were obtained and confirmedby the proposedtests. Theresultswhen comparedwiththeonesobtainedwithmassspectrometrydata, demonstrate the usefulness and ease of applicationof the systemfor confirmation ofthe identityof the abovementioned trichothecenesonthin layerchromatography.
